The Brow Routine

March 30, 2015

It's time that we wrap up the brow hype on Embur for a bit. For the past couple of weeks, I have been reviewing and talking about various brow products, specifically Anastasia Beverly Hills aka The Queen of Brows. I'm not sponsored by her by any means by the way, I just love her and her brand. However, since I have been talking about a lot of brow products lately, I figured that it was due time that I did an updated brow routine!

I am very fortunate that I do not have to pluck, tweeze, wax, or thread my eyebrows. That shape is au naturale, baby! There are some sparse hairs that could be plucked, but why start that now if I really don't need to! However, the color of my brows are definitely not natural. I personally think my brows are really light, and looks a tad weird when I don't fill them in. Common problem for redheads. Below is my brow routine that I have been doing a lot lately featuring the lovely Anastasia DIPBROW pomade in Auburn. This tutorial is definitely more for a natural brow look for everyday wear, instead of a dramatic bold brow like I do when I pair it with bold eyes and lips.

PRODUCTS USED:
Anastasia DIPBROW Pomade
NYX Eyebrow Cake Powder Duo
Maybelline Clear Mascara
Sonia Kashuk Spooly
Angled Brow Brush

I hope you enjoyed the video! What do you like to use in your brow routine? Let me know in the comments down below!

Spring Beauty Haul

March 24, 2015

I may or may not have gone a little crazy in Ulta, Sephora, and CVS over my spring break. I had mentioned in a previous post that I really wanted to the Anastasia DIPBROW pomade and the NARS Tinted Moisturizer, and that was literally all I planned on purchasing over my break, but then I walked into Ulta one day to pick up the new Maybelline brow precise pencil, and then the next I knew was I was at the register with a bag full of items. The same at CVS–it's all a blur to me now. Either way, I figured that I should film a haul for you all since I haven't done that in quite some time. I very rarely go on big shopping sprees like this one, so I figure it was about time that I did since I had been saving up for some products for a while.

Like I said above, one of the big things that I wanted was the NARS Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer, and thanks to Heaven above that I finally have it in my possession because this stuff is liquid gold. I haven't stop wearing it since! I'm usually a full-coverage foundation kind of girl, but this baby is converting me to the lighter side. My skin has been really good lately, so I am soaking this moment all up to show off my clear skin. I can already tell you that this jewel will be in my monthly favorites this month for sure.

Another reason I spent a lot of time and money in Ulta was because they had a L'Oreal and Maybelline buy two, get one free deal going on, and you should know I could not pass that up since there was a lot of their products on my 'to buy' list. I have tried out almost all of the products and I think that they are all great quality for a drugstore product. I think drugstore brands are really stepping up their game this year. I feel like a lot of those products are also going to be in my monthly favorites too, so stay tuned for that in a few weeks!

One of the least suspecting products that I bought was the Kiehl's Healthy Skin Starter Kit. Originally I just went to Nordstrom to pick up a jar of the Kiehl's Ultra Facial Cream, and I stumbled across this which was the same exact price, but came with so many more products (a lot of them were ones that I was hoping to eventually try too). This was just another one of those deals that I could pass up. I'm still trying these products, so stay tuned for a future review post of these products too!

I hope you guys enjoyed the video! Who else loves spring beauty products? Leave me a comment down below if you have tried any of these products, and what new beauty products do you want to try out this spring?

Breaking Bad Beauty Habits

March 17, 2015

Photography by Julia Minamata

Today I have decided to take a break on talking about makeup products and do something about me. I have seen a lot of bloggers lately talking about some bad beauty habits that they have, and most have made me realize I'm not quite alone with mine. There's something nice about knowing someone else has your weird little quirks. With that being said, I am going to share with you all my bad beauty habits, and maybe you have the same ones as me!

1. Picking off my mascara
Probably my worst habit of all. I don't know why or how I started it. I just pick out the mascara clumps, and then next, my lashes are bare. I notice I do it whenever I'm bored in class or reading. Just by typing this makes me want to start picking at them. It's definitely a habit I need to stop because it's probably the reason I have such short lashes, and I'm also tired of clumps falling into my eyes and black flakes on my cheeks.

2. Neglecting heat protectant
Every single time after I get my hair trimmed, I make a promise to myself to always use heat protectant. Then one morning I start running late, neglect to use it, and fry my hair with my straightener. It's all down hill from there. This is one habit I need to fix ASAP because my hair is becoming so terribly damaged and dry at the ends. Although I really do need to just find a heat protectant that I actually like.

3. Not cleaning my brushes frequently
Literally the number one thing that I hate doing the most when it comes to my makeup, and I'm probably not the only one. It just takes forever since I use shampoo and water from the sink and I have so many usually to clean. I usually will clean them before I do a tutorial or I notice a couple breakouts on my face. Clean skin = No cleaning. At least for me it is, but now that sounds a bit gross, so I need to really work on that.

4. Forgetting to moisturize my body
I moisturize the hell out of my face twice a day, but I always forget to do the rest of my body. It's not that I don't have enough lotion because I'm at the point where I have too much. I think it's just because I'm simply too lazy. However, lately I have been moisturizing my legs and the back of my arms more to reduce and calm my KP. My feet are impossible to stay moisturized, so I probably should work on that since my feet are very important to me since I'm also a dancer.

5. Not washing my hair enough
Now a lot of people would think that washing your hair at least once a week is disgusting and a bad beauty habit to break. However, I actually don't. I have extremely thick hair and it's naturally dry and somewhat coarse. It literally takes about a week for my hair to start getting oily, and that's without using dry shampoo. It's actually terrible to wash your hair everyday, so usually people will do it every other day or every two days, but I hate doing it so if I do not have to, I won't. So actually, this is a "bad beauty habit" that I don't plan on fixing. Sorry not sorry!

6. Picking at my freaking nails
Can you tell that I hate that I do this? I can't help it though, once the polish starts chipping, it's like crack and I can't stop! It's not only my nail polish that I pick at, I will usually pick at the skin around my nails too. This is usually if the skin is dry and peeling around my nails, especially like they do around my thumbs all the time. I think that's a genetic problem, and picking at the skin is also the sign of an anxiety disorder. I'm not 100% sure about that, but that's really interesting if it is. Definitely something I should probably work on, but I don't see it happening in the near future. It's my main tick and basically a part of me now.

So that is all of my terrible habits that hopefully I can break soon. I always try to, but some of them feel like they are a part of me now and I won't be able to quit. C'est la vie. What are some bad beauty habits that you want to break?

The Sunday Post: Spring Break

March 15, 2015

It's the end of another week—spring break to be exact. I write this as I sit on a beach gazing at the sunset. All I need is wine and a boyfriend, and you could say this is the best end to a break ever. Unfortunately, I did not go anywhere exciting for spring break this year. I was just happy to have a break and see my family. I only wish this break was longer!

While I was home, I got to spend lots of time with my friends, like Hannah. I want to say that lots went down, but mainly we just sat around Starbucks and Target gossiping. My hometown is not that exciting, especially when everyone we knew was in Florida for spring break. Next year, I will be going to Florida for sure. I wish we could have at least laid out to tan, but there was no way that I was going to do that in 40 degree weather. If it was not for spending time with Hannah and my adorable parents, I would have been bored to death.

A lot of people I know went to the beach, but I felt like that was overrated since I live at one (I mean how amazing is that picture of basically my backyard). So instead, we ventured into the mountains. It was a bit freezing there and still even a bit of snow on the ground. Definitely not my cup of tea. However, I made a huge dent into my wallet and did a huge shopping spree—it was much needed. I haven't had a huge haul in a long time, so stay tuned for that on my channel and here as well this week. I went a little crazy, but what else are you going to do with your best friend on a rainy weekday with no one else around?

I wish I could say more about my week, but honestly, I was just glad that I had a break. I was desperate need of it from the stress of school and midterms. I felt like I had been slacking off on here and my channel, but I was in such a need of a break that I wanted to do nothing. However, I still had work that needed to be done. That being said, I'm going to finish that said work right about now. How was your past week? What are your plans for your spring break, if you have one?

Anastasia DIPBROW Pomade Review

March 12, 2015

Some of you may have noticed a theme here on Embur lately, but I have been obsessed with my brows. I've been trying to step away from my handy-dandy Brow Wiz and venture off onto new territory. Although, I didn't venture far because this new product is still from Anastasia Beverly Hills, but Anastasia is the queen of brows, so why would you want to venture far?

The Anastasia DIPBROW Pomade has been at the tip top of my 'to buy' list for a really long time now, and I was so ecstatic to finally have it in my collection. First off, I have to be honest, I was a little terrified to use this product when I first got it. I knew upfront how pigmented it was. It's definitely not a product I would personally use if I wanted to have a natural looking brow. This is definitely for when I really want a strong, bold brow (which you guys know I love to rock). If I want a natural looking brow, I will stick to using my lovely Brow Wiz for sure.

The texture of this product really reminds me of a gel liner. It is super smooth and buttery, so it goes on like a dream. It goes on the skin so buttery, but once it sets, it's not going anywhere! On my skin, I find that it takes a little while to dry, so I do have enough to take a spooly to blend it out. I don't feel like I am rushing the clock like I do with some gel liners; but, depending on how heavy you apply it, it shouldn't take too long to set. However, I would still use a brow gel afterwards to set it all in place, even though I don't think this product is going to go anywhere. The staying power of this pomade is amazing and I had to really scrub my face with my micellar water to get it off. Be warned: since it is so creamy, I would be careful and put the lid back on after each use because it can and will dry out super fast. I'm really bad about doing that, and just running off to film and coming back to all products open, but with this product, definitely keep it closed so it can stay creamy.

When I use this product, I will use any angled brow brush. I find that using an angled brush just helps when I outline the brow. Then like I said above, I take a spooly and blend the color in just like the Brow Wiz. I will say, though, definitely make sure you have a light hand when brushing on the pomade. Just like the Brow Wiz, I gently stroke it on to make it appear like natural hairs. If you do use to heavy of a hand, it will appear very dark on your skin.

I have the auburn shade much like my Brow Wiz, and I personally find the pomade to be a bit darker. It could be due to the fact that the pomade is a gel and has thicker consistency than a retractable pen would. I think if you use a light hand, like I mentioned above, it shouldn't be too dark. I know the first time that I used it, I definitely was not light handed at all and my brows definitely did not match my hair. I looked like I was trying too hard to look like Cara Delevingne. So my advice: just take your time and be gentle.

Other than that, I am so happy with this product and that it is finally in my collection. I really like what it does to my brow shape and really kicks my brows up a notch. I think this promade can really make your eyebrows on fleek in a snap! Next up that I need to get from Anastasia is the tinted brow gel. I am dying to have that beauty in my hands. I'm not so much in a rush to get the brow powder because I find that my NYX brow powder is a perfect dupe for it, so I may wait awhile before splurging on that. Also, let me know in the comments down below if you have tried this and what else from Anastasia Beverly Hills do you love?

It's finally March! In all seriousness, it feels like I was just on Christmas break. Anyways, I'm actually ready for spring to get here. I'm ready to not be bundled up in heavy coats and have dry skin. I'm also really excited to break out more tinted moisturizers and cream blushes! However, for now, let's get talking about my February favorites.

One of the major things that I was basically obsessing over in February was the Urban Decay Naked palette. I finally caved and treated myself to this gorgeous palette for Valentine's Day. I've already done a full review of the palette that you can check out. Basically this palette consists of warm toned eyeshadows, and I honestly believe that these shadows would look beautiful on any skin tone. I've been really into gold shadows lately, so this palette cured my craving real quick. Like all the other Urban Decay palettes, all of these shadows are just so buttery and very easy to blend.

I also really loved the Sephora Collection retractable brown pen. I did a whole review of that as well where I compared it to the Anastasia Brow Wiz, which it is a great dupe for. Besides that, you can tell in the video that I was kind of freaking out over the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick, mine specifically in the shade Berlin. It definitely deserves the reaction I gave because this stuff is pure liquid gold. I've never been more thrilled for a liquid lipstick before in my life. This baby will not budge at all. I wore it on Valentine's Day and even had some ice cream, yet this lipstick did budge at all. The pigmentation of this lipstick is not even real to me because it's so opaque. If you want a sheer lipstick, turn the other direction. If you want color, opaqueness, longevity, get this baby. It's worth the whole $20. I definitely want to build up my collection of these beauties.

Empties III

March 2, 2015

It's time to go through my trash! The box has started to overflow, so I figured it was about time I went ahead did another empties video. I really noticed how much I go through skincare products and dry shampoo like it is nobody's business! What can I say– I like washing my face, but not my hair I guess. No matter what, I've started to see this trend in my empties videos.

One thing that I could not stop raving about was the Simple Cleansing Micellar Water. This stuff is freaking gold! I have been dying to try micellar water, but you don't find it here often in the US. I'm so thankful that Simple has came out with this now. The only con is I wish the bottle was larger because, obviously, I have been flying through this stuff.

I noticed that anytime I run out of condition, shortly after, I will eventually run out of shampoo. Isn't that always the case? You never can run out of both at the same time. Well I finally ran out of my Wella Brilliance Shampoo for Coarse Hair. I really like Wella and love this shampoo, as well as the matching conditioner. However, I feel like it leaves my hair too dry and soft. I'm so used to my Wen Cleansing Conditioner, which is probably why I feel that way. I really want to try Pureology Red Revival Shampoo and Condition next. Hopefully that will keep my hair vibrant since spring and summer are approaching.

I hope you guys enjoyed this video! Leave a comment down below and tell me, what products you are constantly flying through?
