Urban Decay Naked Palette Review

February 25, 2015

When Urban Decay released the Naked palette, I wasn't really eager to get it. The palette itself seemed very over hyped and not worth the money. It wasn't until I got the Naked3 palette that my thoughts started to change. I love my Naked3 palette, hands down. I am obsessed with pink eyeshadows and think that they look so great with my pale skin. The quality of that palette is so smooth, and the shadows are so buttery and pigmented.

Lately, I have been seriously obsessed with gold eyeshadows and any warm brown shadows as well; and that's when I caved. I decided to treat myself on Valentine's Day and bought the original Naked palette. I had noticed so many people on YouTube still talking about it, so I figured it must be worth the hype– and baby it is. If you love warm toned eyeshadows, especially browns and golds, then this palette is for you. The palette runs for $54 at Sephora, which can be very pricey for some people (I was one of them at first), but I honestly think it is worth every penny. I can already tell I will get my money's worth from it. Seriously though, when I first got it, all I wanted to do was just stare at it because it was so pretty. I haven't been this obsessed with a palette since I got my Lorac Pro palette. I mean, I even love the velvet packaging of this palette. I just want to cuddle with it in bed! Not really though, but kind of.

With this palette, not only do you get 12 shades, but you also get a double ended brush, which I think it great quality itself. The brush is very soft and I will sometimes use it when I use this palette. I use the thicker end for the outer v, and then the flat end to pack on shimmery shadows onto the lid. However, normally I will just stick to my RealTechiniques and MAC brushes most of the time. I think the palette used to come with an eyeliner, but I believe that was back when it first came out sadly.

It's so hard to pick just one favorite shadow out of the whole palette, although Half Baked is pretty darn beautiful. Normally I would complain that there is only two true matte shadows out of the whole palette, but I really love all the shimmer and satin shades. I don't think all of the shimmery shadows are too chunky where I would have glitter flakes falling off my eyelid. All of the shimmery shadows are finely milled and blend like a dream! That is probably one problem that I have with the Naked3; there are two shades in the Naked3 that have too much chunks off glitter that they just won't blend evenly. All the shadows are super buttery and are easy to blend in for a daytime smokey eye.

I've made my own go-to look with this palette that I have been wearing almost everyday because it goes with everything. I love putting Half Baked all over the lid. The light gold shade really brightens my eyes and highlights the green in my eyes as well. Then I use Naked in my crease as a perfect transition shade. I've mentioned before that I have been looking high and low for a perfect transition shade, and baby, Naked is it. I would be fine with just using Naked in my crease, and Virgin on my lid, then just using a black winged liner to go with a simple, bold red lip. After I put Naked in my crease, I use Buck in the outer v and my bottom lash line. Finally to finish it all off, I use Sin in my inner corner and brow bone as a highlight.

Urban Decay Naked Palette Swatches, Embur, Urban Decay, Beauty Blogger,

There are so many looks that I am dying to try with this palette, and I cannot wait to experiment with it even more. This palette is really turning me on to shimmer shades, cause I've always loved me some matte shadows, but the shimmer shadows are just too perfect. I really want to do a look with Smog and Toasted because those are just so breathtakingly gorgeous. Can you tell that I'm a little obsessed?

I definitely think that if you do not have this palette, then you definitely need it in your life ASAP. I would say that it is really worth the hype, and I'm upset that I did not get this sooner. I think that you can create so many looks with this, and make it easy to go from a day-to-night look in a snap. Let me know in the comments down below if you have tried this palette and what you think of it! If you don't have it, will you buy it now? Leave it all down below!

The Sunday Post: Beach Day

February 22, 2015

One of the perks of living where I live is that I am in walking distance from the beach. Luckily this weekend, we have had some of the best weather all winter. My parents also decided to come down and visit me this weekend and they brought Khloe! I was really glad to see my parents after the last two weeks that I have had.

Rewind back to last week, I was dying from trying to balance everything going on in my life. I was happy to have a night off to spend Valentine's Day with a couple of my best gal pals. I did, however, check out 50 Shades of Grey, but my review of that should be another post on it's own. I still feel like I haven't taken a real break since though. I love the weekends because I can sleep and relax, but then I end up catching up on work and doing things for my blog and YouTube. I have a serious problem with not being able to relax and be lazy. I already know that one of the these days I'm going to pass out from exhaustion because I don't know how to stop!

I did have a nice break this weekend, finally, with my parents coming to visit. It was one of those days where I just needed to see my mom and dad. I felt like I could finally breathe again after seeing their lovely faces. Though they just left my apartment a couple hours ago, I can't wait to go home in a few weeks and see them again. I miss Mother Theresa's home cooking (Mother Theresa is the nickname I give my mom because her she is not only my mother, but her name is also Theresa, hence Mother Theresa).

Needless to say that I feel like a weight has been lifted off my shoulders, so a walk on the beach was a necessity today. I was thrilled that the weather had gotten warmer and the sun was shining again today. I thought it was an opportune moment to take Khloe on a walk and get some great pictures for the blog.

How was your weekend? Also, in the meantime, who's watching the Oscars tonight? Leave your thoughts and reflections in the comments down below!

Dupe Alert | Anastasia Brow Wiz

February 20, 2015

Everybody and their mom nowadays have been using the infamous Anastasia Brow Wiz. I don't blame them! I use it all the time too, it's my holy grail brow item. Anastasia Beverly Hills has capitalized themselves on the brow game. They're also the only high-end brand that can do auburn shaded brow products properly, at least to what I have found.

However, the only picky problem that I have with the Brow Wiz is that I run out of it so quickly. I know that you are only supposed to use it as an outline for your brow, and then use the spooly to blend it in and fill in the brow. I just have a bad habit of using it to fill in my brow a little bit more than just an outline since my brows are almost invisible without it. So instead of buying another one last week at Sephora, I did a little browsing and came across the Sephora Collection Retractable Brow Pencil, and it was like I could hear the angels sing (more than usual in Sephora) when I swatched this baby.

I love that the pencil itself is thin and retractable, so it's perfect for storage. Also, it's waterproof! I have to have my brows on no matter what I do or where I go, so for this product to be waterproof definitely makes me feel more confident to do my brows for when I go to places like the gym, and I don't have to worry about my brows slowly melting off my face. Granted, I don't believe that they would stay on if you were to go scuba diving, but if you happen to test it out, let me know! I also just love the price. The Sephora pencil is $13, whereas the Brow Wiz is a mere $21.

The texture of the product is also very comparable. They both glide on very gently. Whenever I apply the Sephora brow pencil, I will use a light hand to fill my brows in so it resembles hair like feathering. With either one of them I definitely would not use a heavy hand because then you will have drag eyebrows.

Sephora Collection Brown Pencil (left) vs. Anastasia Brow Wiz (right)

Now there are a lot of things that are quite different from the Brow Wiz, but not dramatically. As far as the auburn color, the Sephora pencil leans more brown, where as the Brow Wiz is a true auburn shade. It also does not have a spooly much like the Brow Wiz, which kind of turned me off a little bit, but then again I actually have real spooly brushes I could use instead. What I assume is a comb on the other end, does not distribute color like the Brow Wiz does. I feel like the spooly on the Brow Wiz really helps shade in the brows and make the color more even, where are this little comb does not since it is plastic. I do use it to help shape my brows, but that's about it.

I think if you want a more natural looking brow, then definitely go with the Sephora Collection one. If you want that really bold, HD looking brow, then stick to Anastasia. That's what I have been doing a lot lately. Let me know in the comments below if you have tried the Sephora pencil or if you have any other Brow Wiz dupes!

Minimal Makeup Routine

February 18, 2015

For the past few weeks I have not been feeling at my best. I've been so swamped in work, school, and blogging that sleep has taken a back seat to my life. I know this is not a wise decision, but after a couple days, you really learn who your best friend truly is– caffeine.

So since sleep hasn't been the biggest priority, makeup hasn't been so much either. This week I decided to show you guys my minimal makeup routine that I have been sporting lately. I noticed while I was setting up that most of the products are drugstore and I used under 10 products. Go me! If you don't want to bother with the two high-end products, then by all means skip them or replace them with your current favorites.

I really wanted to show off the Neutrogena Healthy Skin Glow Sheers illuminating tinted moisturizer. I have always had a hard time finding a great tinted moisturizer that matches my skin tone, then I found this beauty! I think it's a great drugstore tinted moisturizer. It's not oily on my skin and blends like a dream. If you are fair like me, go check this baby out. I haven't used any Neutrogena products since high school, and now I really want to give them a shot again after using this.

I hope you guys enjoy the video and leave a comment down below what is a staple in your minimal makeup routine!

Valentine's Day | Get Ready With Me

February 16, 2015

So I know this is coming up way past Valentine's Day, but I still thought I should make a post about it! I actually really loved this look because it's so classic and simple. It has a very feminine feeling with cat eye and soft pink eyes, but then you have this bold pink lip that really spices it up.

One thing that I really wanted to focus this look around was the lips. I recently had purchased the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Berlin, and I was honestly shocked at myself that I didn't get Bacherlotte, but let's face it, I have a million and one lipsticks that pink berry shade. I love Berlin and how it was a warm rose color, and it screamed Valentine's Day to me. Another thing that I love about this lipstick is that it really is everlasting. It stays on all day and night. I wore it out on Valentine's Day and I was eating pasta, ice cream, drinking things, and it said on all night. I never had to worry about reapplying it. I definitely want to go back to Sephora and get more!

How To: Fix Broken Eyeshadow

February 10, 2015

When I first received my Lorac Pro palette in the mail from Ulta, the black shadow in it was already halfway broken. Although you can usually return it to Ulta and get a brand new one that is unbroken, I was on a tight schedule at the time and getting ready to leave for London in the following couple of days. I specifically order the palette at the time because I wanted to take it to London. I loathe ordering makeup online because of the fear of this happening.

For a while now, the unbroken half has held together, so I felt no need to fix it. However, lately, it has started to crumble more and has been getting all over my vanity and the other shadows. I finally caved and decided to fix this shadow myself, even though I was terrified because I love this shadow. It is my favorite black shadow because it is a true matte black, and it so buttery and pigmented that it is perfect for eyeliner. Now that I have fixed it myself, I am going to walk you through it and show you exactly how I did it.

MATERIALS NEEDED:
- Broken eyeshadow
- 70% Alcohol (I used a spray bottle, but you can use a normal bottle and purchase a separate mini spray bottle or dropper)
- Bobby pins
- A coin the size of the shadow
- A tissue to cover the coin

First, take a bobby pin and crush the eyeshadow into a fine powder.

This part killed me a little on the inside, because I knew that there was no going back now. It's important to make sure that you crush up all the clumps so that the shadow is in a fine powder. This part is also extremely messy, so take my advice and make sure you have a paper towel underneath, unlike what I did. A lot of tutorials show them using a pencil, but I particularly did not want lead in my makeup, so I opted for the bobby pin. It does the exact same thing that you need a pencil to do in this situation.

Second, spray the 70% alcohol onto the crushed powder.

Don't worry, this perfectly safe. I have seen many tutorials that suggest spraying the alcohol onto the shadow, hence why I decided to try it this way. I personally did not find this way to be sufficient. I felt like all it did was spray the shadow out of the pan and create a larger mess. It did not seem like the shadow was getting damp at all, and sprayed more alcohol on the palette itself. I will show in a next step what I did instead.

If you do decide to do it this way, be cautious. I covered the other shadows and made sure it didn't get all over them. I also decided to wear gloves because I had cuts on my thumbs and getting alcohol sprayed on them just did not sound pleasant.

If the spray method does not work for you, try a dropper or a straw.

Like I said above, I felt like the shadow did not get as wet with the spray as I have seen in other tutorials. Since I did not have a dropper on hand, I used a plastic straw. All I did was place my finger on one end of the straw, while I sprayed the alcohol down the straw. I then, slowly, let the alcohol drip past my finger, so I wouldn't get the shadow too wet. I made it so all the eyeshadow was wet, but not swimming in alcohol.

After whichever method you choose, press down on the shadow with a tissue covered coin for 30 seconds.

I personally used 5 pence because I randomly had some British coins lying near by, and 5p is smaller than an American dime, I believe. The only reason I wrapped it in tissue was to: 1. I didn't want any germs on the coin to get on the shadow. 2. Since my shadow was in a square pan, the tissue helped stick down the shadow in the stubborn corners.

To be honest, I did not hold my coin down for 30 seconds. I did let the eyeshadow soak up the powder a little bit before pressing down on it. However, I did just do a rough guesstimate on the time limit, so feel free to do that if you wish, but best advice would be to actually hold it down for 30 seconds.

After that, I let it dry and we were done! I went out for a couple hours and let mine dry over that time. I assumed from spraying the alcohol, and also from me constantly dropping the palette, made me lose more shadow than I thought. I think that you can definitely tell that this shadow is messed up. You can tell that I had to fix it. I mainly think it just looks like it has been used and how an eyeshadow would normally appear when you hit pan. At least it went back together and I don't have to worry about it constantly falling out anymore. There was some fall out afterwards still, but not as much as before I fixed it.

The pigmentation was still there, but I feel like it was a lot darker before. It still had that buttery feeling that a lot of Lorac eyeshadows have. I think that I will definitely still use it as an eyeliner. Overall, I would advise you not to break the shadow in the first place, especially a black one. This was such a pain to clean up after. Needless to say, I'll be cleaning up black eyeshadow off my counter for a while now. This stuff gets everywhere. I am definitely interested to see how this would work if I had a lot more broken eyeshadow, just to see if it would still perfectly match the other shadows in the palette.

Let me know if you guys have tried this and how it worked out for you in the comments below!

The Sunday Post: Recovering

February 8, 2015

I'm starting this little thing where I am going to make a post every Sunday just to recap my week. This week especially was tiresome for me cause I definitely was not feeling that great. I don't know what is going on, but my sinuses have been such a pain. Sorry if that's TMI.

Today was actually the first day that I tried to actually put on a full face of makeup and it was like I completely forgot how to even do a daytime smokey eye. I've just been feeling like a complete vampire by staying away in the darkness of my bedroom. I finally had to let light into my living room today and open my windows for fresh air. It's been a real struggle in the Embur household this week.

Now that I am finally feeling a bit better, I am excited for the week ahead. Valentines is this coming weekend, and even though I do not have a date, this is one of the first years that I am actually really excited for this holiday. I have never been a huge fan of Valentine's Day, even when I had a boyfriend. The girls and I are going out for a fancy dinner and going to the movies– that said movie may or may not be 50 Shades of Grey *wink, wink*.

I know this is a rather short post, but the zombie in me is in desperate need of a nap. I am really excited for this week though and I am so thrilled to start blogging and writing more. What did you guys do this week?

Monthly Favorites | January

February 6, 2015

Was it just me or did January fly by? I cannot believe that we are already a month into 2015. It's safe to say that January was busy nonetheless. Starting classes again were a super drag, so you would have thought that the first month back would be as slow as a snail. Not for me! I already feel like this semester is going to fly by, and as much as I want to graduate, I really wish it would slow down a bit. Enough of me rambling now, let's dig into some monthly favorites. I tried my hardest not to make this another 15 minute long video, but you guys know I love to talk and just ramble on, especially when I really love a product.

I think two of the things that I was really obsessed with in January was my Clarisonic Mia 2 and the Lorac Unzipped Palette. I think I may do an entire blog post dedicated to my Clarisonic and how to use it, things like that, since I did ramble on about it quite a lot in this video. I also talked about how the Lorac palette was a lot like the Urban Decay Naked 3 palette in the color range and formula. I may be doing a post soon comparing the two and which you should buy, so stay tuned for that.

Leave a comment down below what you were loving in the month of January! Were they any of these?

What's In My Handbag

February 2, 2015

It has officially been a whole year of me being on YouTube, so I thought that it would be perfect for me to do another What's In My Handbag video since that was the very first video that I uploaded on YouTube!

I absolutely love my Michael Kors 'Large Reese' Saffiano leather bag. I got it as a gift for my 21st birthday last July and I have been obsessed with it since. It goes with everything and I like that it is very simple, but also has a ton of storage. I also like that there is no obsessive MK all over the bag, and just has Michael Kors written in gold across the top of the bag. The bag itself is fairly heavy, so if you do not like caring heavy bag in the elbow of your arm all the time, I would not go with this bag. It does come with a shoulder strap to make it a crossbody, but I personally prefer to use the top handles that it comes with.

I hope you guys enjoy the video and leave a comment down below what you have to have in your handbag!
